Why Foods for Thoughts was Created

I have always wanted to combine 3 of my passions…writing, natural living, and creative anxiety management. Over the past 5 years, my outlook on food has changed drastically and my quality of life has improved more than ever expected. Changing over to eating organic and non-GMO teaches you to not only respect your body but to respect the people who produce quality meats, produce, grains, etc. for us to consume. In a world that is filled with toxins, chemicals, artificials flavors/colors, preservatives and so much more, it’s no wonder anxiety is running rapid throughout our country and much of the world.

The Problems with Anxiety Meds

When life gets tough and too much to handle, it’s easy to run to a psychiatrist who is very willingly to write up a prescription for just about any anxiety medication of your choice. Popping a pill a couple of times a day and reaping the benefits immediately is far easier than taking a longer term healing approach, right? Well, yes, but it is the best and most sustainable approach to healing your mind? NO! Taking medication to calm your anxiety is just putting a bandage on your wound (aka your mind). It’s not actually fixing the problem or dealing with your core issues that cause your anxiety. Maybe most importantly, anxiety medications come with a laundry list of potential side effects

Maybe most importantly, anxiety medications come with a laundry list of potential side effects…not to mention the side effects we don’t necessarily know about. I don’t know about you, but that’s really scary and actually gives me more anxiety. Living a life where you solely rely on anxiety medications to cope with anxiety is not a life you have to live. Foods for Thoughts is a place that will teach you techniques and give you tips to start your healing process the natural way. The power of wholesome ingredients, natural foods, and most important you

Wholesome Ingredients for Your Mind

The power of wholesome ingredients, natural foods, and most importantly you MIND are the only “medications” you need to live a healthy and happy life where your anxiety is reduced and managed. I say managed because I don’t think it’s realistic to think you will ever completely cure yourself of anxiety. I also think it puts a lot of pressure on you thinking you have to cure yourself, which in turn can cause more pressure leading to more anxiety. The key to success is to manage your anxiety most of the time by finding techniques that are easy to do and work for you.

Foods for Thoughts focuses on cooking and cooking with wholesome ingredients to help combat anxiety. All the recipes on my blog with highlight one or more ingredients that are proven to reduce anxiety. Including these ingredients in your daily diet can help ease anxiety and is a great starting point for healing your mind. It’s just as important to exclude or limit the foods that are thought to increase anxiety as well, that those foods can be found here. And it’s not just about the recipes either. It’s also about using cooking as an actual technique to calm your anxiety. By practicing mindfulness while you’re cooking, you can train your mind to focus on the cooking process, how ingredients look and feel, how they taste, etc., which in turn trains your mind that it can focus on something else other than being anxious.

It’s a Multifaceted Approach

Managing anxiety is a multifaceted approach and that’s why there is also the “Other Anxiety Tips” section as well. There, I will provide creative and unique tips and techniques that help with anxiety (i.e. mindfulness, adult coloring, meditation practices, burn notes, exercise, and more!). When you combine effective combinations of natural and creative anxiety alternatives, you can begin to heal your mind, reduce anxiety, and learn to effectively manage anxiety.

We are in this healing journey together! We can expect successes and failures, goods days and bad days, but that’s all part of this process. It will take time and effort to heal yourself and to train your mind to be healthy, but always remember you are worth it. In a world that we cannot control, we can still control our mind and bodies in a healthy way. Once you are able to take that power back your will be unstoppable.

I can’t wait to begin this journey with you!
